With Caller ID Unit

  1. Connect 9VDC power transformer to ICW (Internet Call Waiter). Plug transformer into wall jack.
  2. Connect modem to ICW jack labeled "MODEM".
  3. Connect telephone line to CLID unit's TELCO jack.
  4. Connect ICW LINE plug to CLID unit's PHONE jack.
  5. Connect modem to ICW MODEM jack.

Operation

Manual Mode

  • Set ICW switch to MAN. When power is applied to the ICW, the OH (Off Hook) LED will light momentarily.
  • When the modem goes off hook to connect to the Internet, the OH LED will turn on.
  • The ICW will wait 20 seconds after the modem goes off hook, before it can detect incoming call waiting signals.
  • While the modem is connected to the Internet, and an incoming call is received, the ICW will detect the call waiting and will sound the beeper twice to announce the call.
  • If a CLID unit with Call Waiting is installed, the number and identity of the caller will be displayed.
  • To take the call, press the CALL button on the ICW.
  • This will disconnect the modem from the line for 20 seconds, forcing it to hang up. The OH LED will flash and a clicking sound will be heard from the ICW.
  • All telephone sets connected to the telephone line ahead of the ICW will now ring.
  • You can answer the call by picking up any telephone.
  • To ignore the call, do nothing and continue on the internet.

Automatic Mode

  • Set ICW switch to AUTO.
  • The ICW will automatically disconnect the modem and allow the telephones to ring.
  • Answer the call by picking up any telephone set.
  • In AUTO mode, you cannot ignore the call waiting. The ICW will automatically announce all calls.

Technical note:

When the ICW detects each SAS (Subscriber Alert Signal) tone, it automatically disconnects the modem for 1.5 seconds. This allows the CLID Call Waiting unit to handshake with the telephone company and receive the ID information.
